Belly Dance For Health & Fitness
There have been many scientific studies that have proven belly dancing to be beneficial for all kinds of ailments physical problems and diseases. Especially those effecting women. The reason why belly dancing us great for exersise for all ages us because it is low impact. At Tara's class she creates lesson plans that incorporate simple flexibility resistance and moderate cardiovascular exercise as well as safe dance technique. Belly dancing does engage and strengthen the core muscles of the belly pelvis buttocks and lower back. It helps us release fluid into the joints keeping them flexible. Shimmys are a great way to get your cardio going as is fun upbeat easy to follow routines. Good posture, Snake arms and veil dancing engage the upper back and help to tone the arms. Figure rights camels and hip circles give the inner women's muscles a good workout, Stretch and massage. These moves have been studied in China and proved they really help with bladder and womens problems.
At this class it is all performed without having to get down on your knees or roll around dirty floors. The only time we get down onto the floor is if we are learning Turkish floor work or balancing props. This is mainly practiced at workshops not within class. If it is done at class there are variations offered so those who may not want to desend down to the floor or can not go down onto the floor have options. When floor work is practiced by those who are inexperienced knee pads and yoga mats are shared to ensure our bodies are cushioned and our knees are protected.

Frequently Asked Questions -

I have a health problem, Can I still come to class?
For more serious health problem, Before booking please have a word with your GP. If your GP says you are okay to attend then attend.
For minor health problems you are responsible for your own well being. therefore if you don't feel well enough to take part then don't take part. I am not a medical professional therefore I am not qualified or insured to advise on medical conditions. When you come to class you will be asked to fill in a short student learner agreement that you should sign. This is in agreement that you want to take part in a class and you have followed the advice I have given in order to take part.
It is advisable to get a medical check up before taking part in physical activity if ....
  • You are over 40 years of age & You have never exercised before
  • You have not taken on any physical activity for a long time
  • You are on a medication that can alter the heart rate
  • You have a history of coronary problems.

Can I Just Turn Up & Pay Weekly on a Drop in Basis?
No. This is a course and is not available for drop in.

Why Does The Course Need to Be Booked and Paid for in Advance?
The sessions are part of a course. There are a set number of spaces and there is something to work towards. Each class is planned and tailored to the space and people that fill it. Some times people can be unreliable by not turning up once booked and not letting me know in advance. This can effect the flow of the course and it's not fair on the rest of the class who make an effort and are reliable. When you pay for something you are likely to make more of an effort with respect to the class.
If you prefer drop in class please click the link at the top of the page to see if I am running any suitable and near you.
