 Egyptian Golden Era Dance!

The Hoylake Parade Community Centre
Tuesdays 7pm starting 28th September 2021

Learn some simple (but not easy) staple moves and steps working towards learning a beautiful simple belly dance choreography routine with a prop called a veil (a long piece of floaty silk or chiffon material) The course costs £60 and must be booked in advance. You can pay a small deposit of £10 to reserve your space. Please only sign up to the course if you can attend most of the classes. This is an actual course not a group of block booked classes we are working towards learning properly. Everyone will be assessed (informally) and feedback correction is given to ensure you are learning to dance successfully. I not only wish to teach you moves and steps I wish to teach you to dance gracefully. On completion of the course there are opportunities to sign up to experienced beginners course. If you would like to perform there will be opportunities to do so at our  Christmas Hafla party. Don't worry if you prefer not to perform your still welcome to attend and watch. Everyone is welcome! All genders welcome.

This class is mainly for participants of the belly dance classes we run. Most workshops will be focusing on dance choreography rehearsal or specialised class such as learning how to play the finger cymbals. From time to time I will be organising workshops from teachers who specialise in certain dance styles such as Egyptian Shaabi dance or other styles. As well as talks on history and culture. Relevant information will be published regularly. 
*Please not newcomers will not to be invited to our rehearsals or choreography classes that are used by our performers however newcomers are welcome to register and interest in attending specialised workshops. 
Most classes run for one hour unless stated otherwise. All dancers who attend must have some experience learning how to belly dance.

Performance Opportunities / Dance social Events
It's your chance to dance! Or watch! 
There are performance opportunities for people who want to be involved who come to class. Myself and my group are invited to several dance events shows and haflas (parties) as well as public community arts and culture events all year round. I also organise class haflas (parties) that are smaller private and informal. This is an opportunity for the classes to get together socialize celebrate and perform solos duets and group dances as well as bringing food to share. Performance is entirely optional so if you don't want to you perform you will never be pushed into it. If you do wish to perform just make me aware. ⭐ Bring a pair of soft flat comfortable shoes used for dance only. Jazz or ballet style or a pair from primark ect.

This is for track and trace and also to find out medical history to ensure all participants are well enough to take part. ⭐All participants are invited as part of the group to attend fun social events in the north west belly dance community. Events include haflas (belly dance performance parties) shows charity events threatre shows ect.

*NEW COVID RULES - Please bring a face mask as well as your own hip scarf and dance shoes. Dance shoes should be soft flat ballet or jazz type shoes that can purchased inexpensively online. Or bring similar flat dance or yoga type shoes. You can wear a special Egyptian style coin hip belt or just an ordinary scarf that is long enough to tie around your hips. The jingley Beginners type can also be found inexpensively online.

-Everyone will be expected to social distance and sanitise the hands before and after class. Details must be left for track and trace reasons and you must not attend if you have had covid symptoms for 14 days prior to class or if you have been in contact with anyone else who has had covid symptoms. All participants should enter through the entrance and leave through the exit of the building. More details will be explained soon.

- I am asking everyone to contact me to reserve spaces at class. This is due to limited spaces because of social distancing at class and also to avoid people booking and not turning up or just turning up when they want. This will effect the flow of the class as well as override the covid rule. Also to track people who come for track and trace. So I am asking everyone to reserve 3 consecutive classes in advance @the usual price of £5 each so £15 for 3 classes paid in advance. To reserve classes you can contact me to book and pay £10 deposit or full £15. Then every time you want to reserve another 3 classes it can be done with cash at class at least one week before the other runs out. First set of 3 classes can be paid by online paypal, Bank transfer or in the post with a postal order or cheque (address given when booking) if you have any questions or would like to attend please contact me. Hoylake Classes - Every Saturday Morning 11.30am at The Hoylake Parade Community Centre CH473AG £5 per class. No need to book just turn up! Women of all ages and abilities Welcome. For Arts Health & Fitness (something for everyone!) Autumn 2020 Start Date - 26th September 2020 then every week until 12th December. Winter to Summer Term 2021 start date 16th January same day and time and place.

IMPORTANT CHANGES -Due to covid-19 and uncertainty the venue for the Saturday morning class has new duty of care and risk assessment rules. Only 8 people allowed in the room at a time where our belly dancing classes run with social distancing and hygiene rules. Therefore the classes may have to be pre-booked to make sure to many people don't turn up at one time. The problem with holding spaces is sometimes people book and do not turn up. Therefore I may run short 4 week roll on roll off courses that are pre-booked and paid for in advance at class. I will ask for small deposit of £5 in advance to hold the space and the rest (£15) can be paid at the first session of the course This gives all members of the class an opportunity to continue to attend as the class became very busy before the outbreak. This is for everyone's safety and following the centres rules that are covered by government guidelines. Of course the advice may change and things may get back to normal ....who knows? We will have to wait and see but its best to be safe than sorry. Sorry for any inconvenience cause. More info below.

 IMPORTANT INFORMATION CORONA VIRUS UPDATE - New Guidelines for Autumn term 2020
-Unfortunately we can't dance bare foot at class at this time
-All participants must bring a pair of inexpensive jazz or ballet style soft flat dance shoes to be used only in the dance hall. I may have some for sale. They are inexpensive online.
-All participants must bring their own coin hip belt sash or fabric scarf to wear at class. Or ask to buy one from me for £5. A normal scarf will be fine. 
- Please don't come to class if you have been unwell with a cough cold or flu like symptoms in the past two weeks or if you have been in contact with anyone else with symptoms in the last two weeks. 
- Please wash you hands before entering the hall. Sink is in the disabled toilet on the sane floor as the hall. - sanitizer your hands on the way out of the hall or wash them if sanitiser is not available. 
-Please reframe from physical contact at class
-if you become unwell with covid19 symptoms two weeks after class please notify me so I can notify everyone you may have been in contact with at class

This class branched off from the beginner class and is a small established friendly group of women from the area who are of improver to advanced level belly dance students who share an interest in learning higher level technique, Props, Performance (optional) and full choreographed belly dance routines. Performance is optional however there are plenty of opportunities throughout the year. New members are always welcome. £6 per class. This class runs for 60-75 mins. What to wear -
Leggings and a fitted top / t-shirt is fine but be sure your clothing is not to tight or restrictive or to long. Some people wear dance yoga or exercise clothing.
We dance bare foot but flat soft jazz ballet or belly dance style dance shoes are suitable. They must be flat and soft. No trainers in the class please they can be bad for your feet when dancing. If you have been meficalled fitted with special shoes you are welcome to wear them. Please bring socks.
Coin hip belts and scarves are provided along with props for all to borrow. If you have your own feel free to bring them.

No abusive behaviour at class.
Mutual respect is expected to be shown towards other students and the teachers.

Tara Dance Arts is a dance school based in Merseyside. The classes workshops and lessons are held at various venues in Wirral Liverpool and other areas of Merseyside. They are particularly suitable and popular for women however from time to time Men are invited and children are welcome but must be over the age of five and supervised by a participating parent or guardian. Tara Maxwell is the artistic director, Facilitator and owner of the company. She is a working performer with experience and relevant qualifications / certificates. She has taught a various places of arts education and culture and her dance school has been established since 2013. She is fully insured to teach privately and publically as well being trading standards assured (Wirral). Tara teaches from a community dance perspective allowing for an all inclusive environment. She is a professional member of FFCD Foundation For Community Dance - People Dancing.

Tuition & Stylisation
Egyptian Raqs Sharqi, Turkish oryantal, American Cabaret, Folklore, North African & Theatrical fusion. All of these styles of dance are known as belly dancing. They all have similarities however they have noticeable difference.

Social dancing, Performance arts & fitness style belly dance is all included in the tuition giving everybody an opportunity to get the most out of participating.

Technique, Artistic expression, Improvisation, Choreographies, Easy to follow exercise dance routines, Props, Musical instruments (such as drums and finger cymbals/Zills/Sagat).

We are invited to lots of great shows Haflas and parties within the private belly dance community throughout the year giving opportunity for our dance groups to meet up, Eat and watch some great performances.

Performance Opportunities -
As stated above the are social outings and for those who wish to take part in performance at these particular events there will be opportunities for those who come to class regularly, Who work hard to practice and are 100% reliable. In addition to belly dance Haflas run by others we also have our own showcase Haflas parties and recitals. Every summer is full of events we have repeat invites to perform at. These are public events like festivals and summer fetes, Reliable participants who attend classes and rehearsals are welcome to take part.

Disabilities & Learning Diffulties
Tara has taught many students who have struggled at other classes. She is a facilitator and includes everyone. She asks for feedback and allows questions. She helps as much as she can. Tara has dyslexia and understands the problems dance participants who are dyslexic can face therefore she is patient and offers variations at class. Her class in Hoylake has access for people with disabilities. She has a teaching certificate and includes many if not all teaching styles in her sessions.

Belly Dance For Health & Fitness
There have been many scientific studies that have proven belly dancing to be beneficial for all kinds of ailments physical problems and diseases. Especially those effecting women. The reason why belly dancing us great for exersise for all ages us because it is low impact. At Tara's class she creates lesson plans that incorporate simple flexibility resistance and moderate cardiovascular exercise as well as safe dance technique. Belly dancing does engage and strengthen the core muscles of the belly pelvis buttocks and lower back. It helps us release fluid into the joints keeping them flexible. Shimmys are a great way to get your cardio going as is fun upbeat easy to follow routines. Good posture, Snake arms and veil dancing engage the upper back and help to tone the arms. Figure rights camels and hip circles give the inner women's muscles a good workout, Stretch and massage. These moves have been studied in China and proved they really help with bladder and womens problems.
At this class it is all performed without having to get down on your knees or roll around dirty floors. The only time we get down onto the floor is if we are learning Turkish floor work or balancing props. This is mainly practiced at workshops not within class. If it is done at class there are variations offered so those who may not want to desend down to the floor or can not go down onto the floor have options. When floor work is practiced by those who are inexperienced knee pads and yoga mats are shared to ensure our bodies are cushioned and our knees are protected.

What to Wear -
Exercise gym dance sports or yoga clothing is suitable as is a pair of leggings and a top. Anything you feel comfortable to dance / exercise in. We have t-shirts & bags available to purchase at class (optional)

Shoes - No Trainers in the studio / hall please!
Traditionally it is appropriate to dance and learn belly dance bare foot however flat soft ballet jazz or belly dance pumps shoes or slippers are fine. Foot thongs or yoga so is are great also. Bring a pair of socks in your dance bag.

Coins belts and hip scarves -
There are colourful coin hip belts and tassle hip scarves available at class for all to share ware and return in the condition it was found in.  Props and accessories are also shared and should be returned. If you have your own feel free to bring it / them along.

Other Stuff -
If you can bring a bottle of water however there is drinking water at each venue.
There are toilets and changing rooms / areas at each venue.
There is staff at each venue.
Each venue is clean tidy safe with suitable dance flooring ventilation and follow health and safety laws.

 A Course of Ten Belly Dancing Classes in Liverpool

About The Course
This is a dance focused course designed to encourage people from all walks of life to participate in dance. Over the twelve week period Tara will teach her format of belly dance technique along with an introduction to a popular belly dance prop. Then a choreographed dance routine will be taught with the prop. Artistic expression, Improvisation and creativity is expolored as part of the course so the student can build upon the choreography taught to add to it and change it to make it their own and are welcome to perform the choreography when it suits once the course is completed. Students are invited to attend an introduction taster class before signing up. Along with learning how to belly dance there are many 
proven health and fitness benefits so attending will also give is great form of low impact moderate intensity cardio flexibility and resistance workout. The objective of this particular course is to teach the benefits of dance and to teach those who think they can't dance to walk in at the beginning of the course and dance out by the end. We end the course with a mini belly dance party / social get together. 
*Optional - there are performance opportunities for those who want to get involved.

The teaching concept and environment is based around community dance. The dance style and technique is that of oriental dance (belly dance) with a touch of theatrical flair.

What to wear - 
Dance yoga fitness gym clothing or leggings and a top.
Traditionally it is acceptable and authentic to dance bare foot however flat soft ballet jazz highland belly dance shoes, yoga socks or foot thongs are fine to wear at class - no trainers unless medically fitted. Coin hip belts and props provided for all to wear and return at class. 

Venue-  Great care has been taken to select suitable appropriate well kept venues rooms studios and halls that follow health and safety procedures and are of a high standard. All venues hired by Tara have suitable dance flooring, Lighting and ventilation. There is drinking water at each venue as well as waiting areas, Toilets, Changing rooms / areas. Staff are present and venues are safe
